How it works
Equivalent ratios multiply or divide both parts by the same factor. Simplification divides the parts by their greatest common divisor when possible.
Using the result
Ratios compare quantities in the same order. Reversing the parts changes the meaning of the ratio.
Important limitation
Keep units consistent, or explicitly state them when a ratio intentionally compares different kinds of quantities.
