From patio size to a material order

A durable paver installation requires more than surface units. This planner calculates the paver order, compacted aggregate base, bedding sand, jointing sand, edge restraint, optional landscape fabric, excavation volume, and an itemized material estimate.

Waste follows the layout

Straight layouts generally need fewer cuts than running-bond, diagonal, curved, or multi-size patterns. The planner applies the selected allowance before rounding to full packages, layers, or pallets. Confirm manufacturer coverage because mixed-size systems may be sold by layer rather than individual paver.

Base and excavation assumptions

Base depth should represent the compacted finished layer. The additional allowance accounts for compaction and minor grade variation. Soil conditions, drainage, freeze depth, vehicle loads, and local requirements can require a different section design.

How costs are calculated

Each material quantity is multiplied by its entered local price. Delivery, equipment rental, demolition, disposal, tax, labor, drainage systems, sealers, and permit costs are not included unless you add them outside this material plan.

Before ordering

  • Confirm paver dimensions, pieces per package, and coverage with the selected product.
  • Ask the aggregate supplier for actual density and whether orders are sold by ton or cubic yard.
  • Use the product label for jointing-sand coverage because joint width and paver depth matter.
  • Review slope and drainage before excavation.
  • Verify underground utilities before digging.
